Welcome Message from the HOD

Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at Federal University of Technology Ikot-Abasi (FUTIA). The department is established to deliver high quality and relevant academic programmes, towards in-depth acquisition of technical skills and scientific knowledge in both the theoretical and experimental aspects, which furthers FUTIA’s vision of producing graduates of high standard academics, professionals and entrepreneurs, who can carry out researches by partnering with industries.

We have three undergraduate majors, namely Computer, Power Systems and Telecommunications. With a large number of full time faculty members dedicated to research and teaching, and a number of technical and industrial laboratories and workshop, we are proud to provide a wide range of industries in Nigeria with highly educated electrical engineers in different areas of interest.

THE MISSION: Our mission is to offer high quality and relevant Electrical and Electronics Engineering programme geared towards producing a high-level manpower for effective service delivery to cater for electrical engineering sectors for sustainable national development, produce high quality personnel to effectively manage electrical systems in harmony with the environment, and compete favourably with the best electrical engineering departments in the world.

THE VISION: In line with the FUTIA`s vision, the departmental vision statement is to produce graduate engineers who are scientifically and technologically knowledgeable in Innovations and transformations in the scientific and technological community, with a greater number of the graduates geared towards self-employment and/or providing consultancy services among others.

PHILOSOPHY: The philosophy of the bachelors in engineering of Electrical and Electronics Engineering degree
programme is geared towards the development of technical manpower of academic and practical
competence in electrical and electronic engineering with high moral standard for sustaining the
growing economic of Nigeria. It is designed towards producing well-balanced Electrical and Electronics engineers.

CORE VALUES: Our Core Values are Integrity, Leadership and Transparency.

STRATEGIC GOALS: The strategic goals of the department are:

  1. That the graduate of our departmental programme will be competent Electrical and Electronics Engineers, who will be expert in one of the specializations in the discipline.
  2. That the graduates of our programme will be skilled to have enough confidence to establish a small engineering business if ready–made jobs are not yet available.
  3. Our programme will provide high quality research and development activities that will promote the development of the Nation and enhance the image of the University and the researchers.
  4. That our Programme operates as an equal opportunity educational department, sensitive to the principle of gender equity and non-discriminatory based on race, ethnicity, religion or physical disability.
  5. Finally, the product of our programme can pursue a post-graduate programme in one of the areas in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

What does an Electrical and Electronics Engineer do?

An electrical engineers specialize in the design, development, and maintenance of electrical systems and devices. These professionals apply principles of electrical engineering to create solutions that address a wide range of needs, from powering homes and businesses to designing advanced electronics and communication systems. They work across various industries, including telecommunications, power generation, automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics, where they play a significant role in innovation and technological advancement.

Electrical engineers often collaborate with other professionals, such as mechanical engineers, software engineers, and project managers, to bring projects to fruition and ensure they meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.

Electronics engineers focus on designing and developing electronic circuits, components, and systems. They work on projects involving consumer electronics, telecommunications equipment, medical devices, and industrial automation. Electronics engineers may specialize further in areas such as digital electronics, analog electronics, or embedded systems design.
